St. John Lutheran church rest upon a spacious, well-kept acreage, along a hard surfaced road, surrounded by corn and bean fields. The beauty of the countryside is evident in each sunrise and sunset. It was founded in 1878 by a group of German immigrants desiring a place of worship. It was the first Lutheran church in Sioux County. Since those early days it has been a place where the gospel is proclaimed and the faith is passed on through the generations.
We are not stuck in the past though. God has been up to amazing things in our midst as we continue to grow our ministry presence in our community. The church has changed much over the years, but through it all the one constant has been God's love felt in our midst.
We pray that God will continue to make this a place where Christ's love is shared with the community around it. A place where people can come to grow and experience a faith that is alive and active in the world. A place where the gospel is proclaimed and lived. God has done and continues to do awesome things in our midst. Come join us and see for yourself!

We believe
Jesus Christ is the Word of God incarnate, through whom everything was made and through whose life, death, and resurrection God fashions a new creation. |
We believe
All human beings are sinners. Sinners who are redeemed by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. God alone justifies human beings by faith in Christ — a faith that God creates through the message of the Gospel. As ambassadors for Christ, God uses us to speak his Word and build his kingdom. |
We believe
The church is the assembly of believers called and gathered by God around Word and Sacrament, and that the mission and ministry of the church is carried out within the context of individual congregations, which are able to work together locally and globally. |
Our Staff
Pastor Jeremy Winter
|
St. John has been a part of Pastor Jeremy's life from the moment he was born. It is the church he was baptized in. The church he was ordained in. The church his family has been a part of for generations. After serving churches in the Upper Penninsula of Michigan and elsewhere in Iowa God has led him back home to be the pastor here at St. John.
God’s love for us and the joy that brings is at the heart of his ministry. We are people of good news and we should act like it. So, Sundays should have laughter and joy as we embrace that good news and spread it out into the world. Outside of the church, he enjoys watching sports, birdwatching, and helping out on his family farm. Most of all he loves spending time with family and hearing his kids laugh. |
Kim Winter- Office Administrator
That fantastic looking bulletin you get on Sundays and those super informative newsletters which show up every month, well a lot of work went into those. A lot of work by Kim. Of course, she does so much more than just that. She keeps the church, and the pastor, organized and on task. She is an incredibly valuable part of our ministry and we thank God for all her gifts. |
Darla Eeten - Custodian
Darla has been hard at work cleaning up after us for many years. She keeps our sanctuary looking great, even though we don’t always make it easy for her. We thank God for the work Darla does. A true reminder that there is no job unimportant when it comes to the work of the church. |
Ruth Heitritter and Anita Kray - Organists
The unsung hero of every church are the organists. That is certainly true for us at St. John. We are blessed to have two wonderful church musicians in Ruth and Anita. They makes it possible for us to gather together every Sunday and praise God in song.
